Roof Ventilation Services

A poorly ventilated roof cavity traps heat in summer (often exceeding 60°C) and moisture in winter, leading to higher energy bills, condensation damage, mould growth and premature deterioration of timber framing and insulation. Effective roof ventilation creates airflow that exhausts hot, moist air and draws in cooler, drier air from the eaves. We install a range of ventilation solutions including turbine ventilators (whirlybirds), continuous ridge vents and solar-powered extraction fans. The right system depends on your roof design, cavity size and climate — and we will recommend the most effective solution for your home.

What's Included

Turbine ventilators (whirlybirds) in Colorbond colour range
Continuous ridge vent systems for maximum passive airflow
Solar-powered roof ventilation fans — no running costs
Eave vent installation to supply fresh intake air
Correct ventilation calculations based on cavity volume and roof design
Watertight roof penetration installation

Benefits

Reduce Summer Heat

Effective ventilation can reduce roof cavity temperatures by 20°C or more, keeping your home cooler and lowering air conditioning costs.

Prevent Condensation & Mould

In cooler months, ventilation removes trapped moisture before it condenses on timber and insulation, preventing mould and rot.

Extend Roof Structure Life

By controlling heat and moisture, ventilation protects timber framing, insulation batts and roofing materials from premature degradation.

Our Process

1

Ventilation Assessment

We assess your roof cavity size, existing ventilation, insulation type and climate conditions to calculate the ventilation required.

2

System Recommendation

Based on the assessment, we recommend the most effective combination of exhaust ventilation (whirlybirds, ridge vents or solar fans) and intake ventilation (eave vents).

3

Installation

Ventilation units are installed with watertight roof penetration flashings. Eave vents are fitted to provide balanced intake airflow.

4

Testing & Handover

The system is checked for correct operation and airflow. You receive information on the system and any maintenance requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many whirlybirds does my house need?

The number depends on your roof cavity volume and the airflow rating of the ventilator. As a general guide, one whirlybird services approximately 50 to 60 square metres of ceiling area. We calculate the exact number during our assessment.

Are solar ventilation fans better than whirlybirds?

Solar fans move a higher volume of air and operate even on still days when whirlybirds are less effective. They are a premium option with no ongoing running costs. Whirlybirds are a cost-effective alternative that work well in breezy areas.

Will ventilation make my house colder in winter?

No. Properly designed ventilation removes moisture without significantly affecting the insulation layer that keeps your home warm. In fact, dry insulation performs better than moisture-laden insulation.
